Isle of harris

A small Outer Hebridean island off the far north-west of Scotland is where you'll find Isle of Harris, a strong community, and a distillery built for the people.

Over the decades, their island has suffered from a long-term decline in population, with community numbers having halved over the last fifty years. These changes threaten local traditions, culture, with schools and village numbers dwindling.

As young people leave their shores, few are able to return and find work and set down roots in the place they called home.
At Isle of Harris, there is the belief a distillery, built for not just years but generations, can be a way to help stem this tide.

One purpose - The SOcial Distillery

Isle of Harris Distillery was built to address the issue of industry by creating sustainable local employment and providing development opportunities, acting as a catalyst for change and promise for this generation and those still to come.

Founded in 2015, the distillery started life with just 10 people and an ambition to double over the next few years. Now, Isle of Harris employs over 50 permanent staff, a highly significant number in an island of fewer than 2000 inhabitants.

the Island Spirit

From their infused native sugar kelp gin, to their multi award winning single malt whisky expressions, all bottled in their glassware hand-blown on site, Isle of Harris prides itself in creating a true island spirit.
