Inspired by tradition

In 2011, Elixir Distillers Managing Director, Sukhinder Singh purchased stone flagons filled with the last remaining drops of Rum that had once made up The Royal Navy's Legendary daily tots.

The name "Black Tot" pays homage to Black Tot Day (July 31st, 1970), when the Navy officially ended the centuries-old practice of issuing daily rum rations, or “tots,” to sailors. These exotic rums were then locked away in stone flagons for nearly 40 years before their rediscovery in 2011.

Steeped in tradition, this naval rum had been continuously blended for nearly 170 years and contained stocks from long lost distilleries. As Sukhinder found the last remaining stocks, he honoured those sailors and their tradition by blending these flagons together to create the piece of liquid history that is ‘Black Tot Last Consignment’.

AN Enduring legacy

Crafting bold, exceptional rums inspired by tradition and prioritising flavour in every expertly blended expression. Much like the naval rums of old, Black Tot is constantly evolving and refining, with the flagship Black Tot Finest Caribbean leading the charge.

Drawing inspiration from the complex Caribbean rums found in the original navy rum flagons. These flagons taught a valuable lesson: that blending fantastic single origin rums can produce an amazing depth of flavour.

Black Tot partners with the world’s finest distilleries to create exceptional rum blends, honoring the Royal Navy’s legacy of multi-country blending. The legacy and indeed the very spirit lives on in Black Tot Rum.
