Alba Whisky is the official Australian importer and distributer of Glencairn glassware.

Most famous of all, is the Glencairn Whisky Glass,

In the long and illustrious history of whisky there had never been a single definitive glass that the whisky world could call its own. Brandy, champagne, wine and beer all have their own distinct glasses. Yet whisky—the world’s most complex spirit—was served in whatever was at hand.

In Glasgow, Scotland, Glencairn Crystal Studio combined industry guidance and expertise, to started the journey that would culminate in the Glencairn Whisky Glass. It’s size and shape was perfected to accommodate a 35ml pour whilst allowing for the addition of water; keeping an optimum amount of liquid in contact with air to allow the aromas to develop.

The tapering mouth allowed for an ease of drinking whilst capturing the all-important aromas. The wide crystal bowl enhances the appreciation of the whisky’s colour and the solid base is designed to be easily cradled in the hand. It is also robust enough for the discerning whisky drinker. Glencairn ensured that the glass was an attractive fit for the superb spirits it would carry.

The Glencairn Glass can be found at major whisky festivals around the world, in many serious whisky bars, and in the hands of those who love their drams. The Glencairn Whisky Glass is also used in distilleries across the globe. Since its launch in 2001 the glass has won numerous awards including the Queens Award for Innovation. Today, over 3 million glasses are sold annually and sales continue to grow.

Though it may have followed the first whisky by a few hundred years, enthusiasts the world over are thrilled whisky now has a glass of its own.
